Day one Big Ten Tournament preview.
Posted on 13. Mar, 2013 by JF.
The best conference tournament of the season, and perhaps the most anticipated Big Ten tournament tips off bright and early on Thursday morning when the Gophers take on Illinois at 11 am. How competitive will the tournament be? Consider that the Gophers and the Illini, the eight and nine seeds respectively, are each playing for a chance to beat number one seed Indiana for the second time. Anything can happen, and probably will. Here is what you need to know.

Gophers lose big game, but the sky isn’t falling
Posted on 17. Jan, 2013 by zipsofakron.
Well this really sucks. After a week of waiting and hoping and dreaming and getting all tingly thinking about a possible and historic Gophers victory, the team goes out and lays a giant egg. Not like they got embarrassed or run out of their own gym, but it was a particularly close loss either. And [...]

2012-2013 schedule preview: the bonus wins.
Posted on 23. Oct, 2012 by JF.
The last set of games in our schedule preview hopefully will not determine if the Golden Gophers make the NCAA tournament, but will likely go a long way in determining how far they go in the NCAA tournament. If they win all the games in the must-win and should-win categories, they won’t be on the [...]

Gophers come up short again, fall in Ann Arbor
Posted on 02. Jan, 2012 by zipsofakron.
Minnesota traveled to Ann Arbor to take on the #16 Michigan Wolverines but came up short again, falling in the final seconds 61-56, sending the Gophers to 0-2 in conference play and 12-3 on the season. The end of the Gophers’ latest conference loss felt eerily similar to the wild double-overtime defeat at the hands [...]

Gophers travel to Michigan hoping to replicate last season’s success.
Posted on 31. Dec, 2011 by JF.
For the Golden Gophers to make the NCAA tournament, they will have to win a game or two on the road that they are not supposed to win. Games against the bottom tier of the conference (the Iowa’s and Penn State’s of the world) should be wins. Winning at Wisconsin and Michigan State isn’t impossible, [...]

B1G Preview: Michigan Wolverines
Posted on 24. Dec, 2011 by zipsofakron.
It’s hard to look at a team like Michigan and not see some similarities to the Gophers. This is a team with a fairly strong history of winning on the hardwood that found itself down on its luck in the past decade. Bringing in Jim Beilein a few years ago, expectations rose for a Wolverine [...]

Big Ten Tournament Preview: The Top Five
Posted on 10. Mar, 2011 by JF.
Well, the Gophers sure went out with a whimper. There won’t be any miracle run in the Big Ten Tournament, and there probably won’t be a trip to the NIT either. Post-season basketball is nice and all, but the Gopher season realistically ended when they lost at Indiana, and the team has acted like they were waiting for [...]

Tournament hopes dashed in collapse versus Michigan
Posted on 27. Feb, 2011 by zipsofakron.
Once again the Gophers found themselves with the lead late in the game, and once again they failed to secure the victory, seeing the Michigan Wolverines go on a late 11-1 run to take home a 70-63 victory that all but seals the NCAA Tournament fate for Minnesota. The epic late-season collapse continued with another [...]

How else could a road win against a team that seems to ruin every season once again ruin a season. Unfortunately, the improbable happened just over a month ago [...]

Gophers use size advantage to sink Michigan 69-64
Posted on 23. Jan, 2011 by zipsofakron.
The Gophers faced a four-game losing streak to Michigan and were fresh off a season in which they seemingly had no answer on either offense or defense for the Wolverines, but on Saturday Minnesota used its supreme size advantage to dominate the boards and score down low to turn the tables and secure their first [...]

Golden Gophers vs. Michigan Wolverines 6:00 pm (CST) at Crisler Arena (Ann Arbor, Michigan) TV: Big Ten Network Someone at some point in not so recent history came up with the recipe for a conference championship. That recipe, win all your home games and half your road games, has proven to be prescient in recent [...]

The Worst: Michigan 83 – Gophers 55
Posted on 03. Mar, 2010 by zipsofakron.
Pathetic. Embarrassing. Unbelievable. What ever negative word someone wants to use to describe the Gophers effortless, aloof performance against the Michigan Wolverines would probably be deserved. At a time when Minnesota needed to come out firing against a team with nothing to play for, a time that called for nothing more than a solid performance [...]
