The early season college basketball tournaments tip-off this week, which means we find out who play in many of those tournaments next season. The Gophers will play in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off, and so will Texas Tech.

Since these tournaments are all about money, and ratings equal money, it is hard to envision a scenario that the Gophers wouldn’t play Tubby Smith’s team in the first round of Puerto Rico Tip-Off. And even if they don’t play in the first round, they might play in a later round. Regardless, there is sure to be a bit of awkwardness, and more media attention than typical for a November tournament game.

The Gophers were the Puerto Rico Tip-Off champion under Tubby Smith, when they beat Western Kentucky, North Carolina, and West Virginia. We know Smith can win in November. We hope Richard Pitino can win in November, and all the others months of the season.
